Ryan Jagels, a west Kansas farmer, Stoller customer, and Pioneer seed dealer won the 2019 NCGA yield contest in Kansas. Ryan had the top three yields in the Strip, Min, Mulch, Ridge-Till Irrigated division. He also had the top yield for the state of Kansas, bringing in just over 311 bushels peracre and beating second place by almost 18 bushels.
Ryan started using Stoller in 2012 after attending Commodity Classic where he learned about the data and science behind the products. As a seed dealer, Ryan has been recommending Stoller products to his customers for corn, wheat, and soybeans. Although there is no “silver bullet” to winning yields according to Jagels, the program that he used to win the Kansas NCGA title was simple and cost-effective enough to be applied across his whole farming operation.
Ryan started with Bio-Forge® Advanced seed treatment to mitigate the weather-related stress that occurs in west Kansas. Ryan said the seed treatment application is a must for his customers interested in achieving higher yields because it is easy to do and has a positive ROI.
At V3 to V5, Ryan applied eight ounces ofBio-Forge® Advanced and two pounds of Harvest More™ Urea Mate per acre. With his fungicide treatment pass at pre-tassel, he applied eight ounces of X-Cyte™ and two pounds of Harvest More™ Urea Mate per acre.
“For the most part we’re putting them in when we go across the field with an herbicide or going across with the airplane,” said Jagels.
As a customer for the past eight years, Ryan said that all of the Stoller products have been easy to use because the compatibility with other products makes them easy to add to an application and doesn’t require any special trips across the field.
